Heel Pain / Plantar Fasciitis
One of the more common foot disorders presented to our clinic is heel pain. A sharp pain under the heel experienced first thing in the morning, or after periods of rest, is indicative of an inflammatory condition known as "plantar fasciitis." Some workers will feel pain advancing after a long day on their feet. It is important to identify the cause of acute and chronic heel pain in order to apply effective treatment. An in-depth assessment of footwear, foot function ( biomechanical assessment) , and activity level is important to accurately provide the best treatment outcome.
Childrens' Footcare
Children can present with any of the following unusual gait characteristrics:
flatfeet "feet rolling in ", toe walking, an intoed gait (pidgeon toed), out-toed gait,
"bowlegged" or even "knock-kneed." Growing pains are presented as Severs Disease ( heel pain), and Osgood Schlatters Disease ( knee pain).
General Footcare, Skin & Nail Problems
Podiatrists are the experts when it comes to treating painful or unsightly skin and nail conditions. Some of the more common problems are warts, corns, bunions, cracked heels and tinea etc.. Fungal (yellowing/crumbling) toenails can be treated effectively and advice given on the best treatment regime. Ingrowing toenails are removed and prevented by either conservative treatment or a minor surgical procedure. Podiatrists are skilled in performing a Nail Wedge Resection, where the ingrowing part of the nail is removed under local anaesthetic, and a chemical is used to prevent regrowth.
Sports Injuries
Podiatrists are skilled in diagnosing and treating foot and lower limb pathology.
At Viewbank Podiatry we are experienced in treating the following injuries, plantar fasciitis ( heel and/or arch pain), achilles tendonitis, ankle sprains, shin pain, and knee pain. Forefoot pain (metatarsalgia), can include conditions such as a Mortons Neuroma, Stress Fractures or Bursitis.
A thorough biomechanical assessment can identify an inherent weakness or anomally in a persons walking or running style. This weakness may be the cause of ongoing foot or leg pain. Once identified, appropriate action can be taken to help alleviate pain, allow healing and most importantly, prevent re-injury.
If you suffer from any of the above foot or leg complaints, contact Viewbank Podiatry on 94583911 and one of our
Podiatrists will be able to help.
